About Me
Hello, my name is Samuel Horton! I am a third-year student at the University of Florida pursuing a double major in Political Science and African American Studies. Throughout my time in Gainesville, I have pursued continuous learning that has led me to focus on a deeper understanding of research. My two major programs reinforce one another well, and both disciplines have built a strong theoretical foundation for examining complex cultural and societal phenomena.
Both inside and outside of my academics, I have a deep relationship with sports and how they represent a microcosm of our society. By examining sports through an academic lens, I aim to uncover shifts within the broader American cultural understanding of these events.
My research with Assistant Professor of African American Studies Dr. Drew Brown examines Black Masculinity in modern NFL quarterbacks. Through the early stages of this process, I have developed my acumen as a researcher, reminding myself of the necessity of continued learning and remaining focused on how my findings will make a positive impact on the communities and people we study.

In my future professional and academic career, I hope to make a positive impact in the communities I am involved in and the causes I see as critical.
